Vacations of Yesterday

The beginning of the year is a great time to plan vacations. If circumstances allow, we can easily explore the whole world. But did the past few years bring such freedom? Let's look at the interwar period.

In the "Travel Guide" published in 1935, various ways of traveling are suggested: by train, air, land, and sea.

One advertisement that catches the eye is for "LLOYD" ships. If you're looking for warmth, you can head to Madeira (395 Lt) or visit Spain and Portugal (397.50 Lt). Or perhaps you're interested in a cruise around the Mediterranean for 405 Lt?

If heat isn't appealing, cooler destinations are also offered. You can take a cruise in the Baltic Sea (390 Lt), visit Scotland and Norway (172.50 Lt), or embark on a Polar journey (750 Lt).

Although there were many options, such travels were an expensive luxury for only a few. The average worker's monthly wage was about 160 Lt, so it’s no surprise that the ad states: “Start saving money for this trip now!!!”
