International Guests Visit the Lost Shtetl Project

Last Friday, we had the pleasure of hosting guests from Japan and Sweden. In Šeduva, we were joined by Dr. Satoko Kamoshida, a Yiddish language lecturer at the University of Tokyo, Yuko Ito, the director of the Chiune Sugihara Museum in Japan, Dr. Hisao Oka, a board member of the Holocaust Education Center-Museum, and Karin Brygger, a lecturer at Skövde University and program director at the Gothenburg Jewish Cultural Center "Judisk Salong." They were accompanied by Kristina Agintaitė, the project manager at the Lithuanian Culture Institute, and artist Paulina Pukytė.

We showed our guests all the key locations of our project – the old Jewish cemetery, Holocaust memorial sites, and monuments in the center of Šeduva. Since the Lost Shtetl Museum has not yet opened, we were unable to present its exhibitions, but the experience of seeing these sites firsthand highlighted the project’s impact.

In the evening, we gathered to converse and share experiences. We discussed what we were unable to see in person during the visit, took a virtual tour of the upcoming museum exhibition, and shared our plans for the future.

We sincerely thank our guests for their support and interest in our work.
